NOBALwheat - breeding toolbox for sustainable food system of the NOrdic BALtic region
The main objective of the project is to establish a field trial of spring wheat originating from the Baltic States and Norway and to test its genotypic plasticity and ability to adapt to climate change. Genotypes that turn out to be better get included in breeding programs for disease and abiotic stress-resistant varieties. Together with the data obtained from genotyping, the NOBALwheat wheat collection works as a base population for the introduction and application of genomic selection. The creation of low-cost, high-productivity phenotyping platforms and their introduction into breeding programs will increase food security in the Nordic and Baltic regions.
