The development of lodging-resistant and climate-smart rye - a contribution to sustainable cereal production in marginal environments.
The hybrid breeding project is the European Union's ERA-NET Sustainable Crop Production project.
The main goal is to obtain a material with a competitive yield, good food quality, and resources (plant nutrients, water) with efficient use of stable rye hybrid varieties.
An international consortium has been set up to carry out the tasks of the project, which includes Germany, Finland, Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Austria, Poland, and Norway. The project leader is Dr. Franz Joachim Fromme from the German breeding company HYBRO Saatzucht GmbH & Co.
